For over 14 years, Salem has partnered with the St. Louis Public Schools, a district serving 20,000+ students throughout the city of St. Louis. Salem partners with Lyon Academy at Blow (PreK-8th grade) in the Carondelet neighborhood and Walbridge STEAM Academy (PreK-5th grade) in the Walnut Park East neighborhood. IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITIES

Walbridge’s Mobile Food Markets: Load food into the cars of families in need. Requires some heavy lifting. Commitment: 8:30 am-Noon  | Oct. 28, Nov. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 10, Dec. 16 Location: Walbridge STEM Academy 5000 Davison Ave, St. Louis, MO 63120

Tutor a Child: Encourage students by reading with them on a weekly basis. Tentative start date January 2022.  Commitment: 1 hour/week plus driving time.  | Age Requirement: 18+

Pass out Student Attendance Incentives: Encourage school attendance by greeting children and passing out a small gift (pencil, sticker, etc) when they arrive at school. Volunteer is not responsible for providing the small gift.  Tentative start date January 2022.  Commitment: 7:45 - 8:15am any weekday morning. Age Requirement: 18+ | Location: Walbridge STEM Academy and Lyon Academy at Blow Elementary

Help with games during Parent Teacher Conferences: Play board games with students while their parents attend Parent Teacher Conferences held in October and March. Tentative start date March 2022.  Commitment: 4:00 – 6:00 pm once or twice a year. Age Requirement: 18+ | Location: Lyon Academy at Blow Elementary

Special Events - Benefit Concert:
Organize a benefit concert at Salem or The Connection to raise money for purchasing books for the children and/or classrooms. 

School Supply Drive:
Help outreach team members organize and run the annual school supply drive. Organize a Packing Day to get supplies ready for distribution. Commitment: several hours a month during June, July and August.

CONTACTLESS OPPORTUNITIES

Notes of Encouragement: Write personalized notes of encouragement to the staff at our partner schools. We will provide the names of the staff members.

Baked Goods: Provide 2 dozen baked goods (store bought or homemade) for the staff at our partner schools. Pick a month to provide yummy treats.

Staff Appreciation Days: Donate snacks, decorations and/or small items for gift bags. Assemble gift bags.

Donate School Supplies: Most needed items are wide-ruled spiral notebooks, wide-ruled looseleaf paper and #2 pencils.

Donate Student Attendance Incentives: Provide 100–200 fun pencils, stickers, small gifts. These gifts will be given out as students arrive at school in order to encourage school attendance.

Donate Children’s Books: Provide new or gently used. Place your donations in the Out of Our Bounty bin at either Salem mid-county or The Connection. Label your donation “SLPS books.”

Donate NEW Winter Coats: Donate coats (all sizes) for the students at St. Louis Public Schools. Donations accepted October - December. Place your donations in the Out of Our Bounty bin at either Salem mid-county or The Connection. Label your donation “SLPS coats.”

Miscellaneous Projects: Serve on an on-call basis when projects come up.  We’ll let you know when we have a need and you can let us know if you are available.

Make a monetary donation: Support our partner St. Louis Public Schools.
