Missing Voices Concert

March 19, 7:00 pm
Salem United Methodist Church

Experience the works of the lost Jewish composers of Classical Music in our second Voices & Visions concert series.

All are welcome to this free concert!

Missing Voices brings renewed attention to the extraordinary contributions of Jewish classical composers whose lives and legacies were profoundly affected by the Holocaust. Pál Hermann, Henriëtte Bosmans, Jozéf Koffler, and Daniël Belinfante—among many others—were celebrated figures before WWII, and their works were performed widely and with great admiration. The devastation of the war interrupted their paths and silenced an entire generation of creative potential. As a result, their music is far too seldom heard today, even among historically informed performers. This absence represents a second, gentler but still painful loss: though their lives were cut short or forever altered, their artistic voices also faded from our collective memory.

French pianist Dimitri Malignan founded Missing Voices in 2020, beginning with a documentary film and a series of concerts in the Netherlands. Since then, he has shared this mission around the world.

Join Malignan and soprano Lily Arbisser on March 19 for an evening of cultural remembrance and restoration, honoring lives interrupted and ensuring that their music—and their stories—continue to resonate today.
