Experience the profound emotional depth of the Baroque era’s greatest master. Join the Salem Chamber Orchestra and Chancel Choir for an evening dedicated to the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach. Sorrow Into Joy explores the profound Christian paradox: earthly suffering is the necessary path to heavenly joy. 

The centerpiece of this concert is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata No. 12, Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen, one of Bach’s most emotionally potent early works. The themes in the cantata, written in 1714, are deeply rooted in the New Testament writings of Peter and Paul, providing the theological framework for the idea that suffering is not only temporary but is actively preparing us for something greater.
